Connect decisions to the operational rhythm

01 / CONTEXT

What problem is worth solving?

Tampa General Hospital’s 2024 release describes Palantir software connecting placement, beds and staffing, with reported operational improvements. The case concerns coordination within working teams, not clinical diagnosis or treatment.

BUSINESS VALUE

Keep resources, priorities and ownership aligned to current conditions, reducing information waits and repeated coordination.

WORKING ROLES
Operations coordinators, resource owners, on-call teams and delivery engineers
02 / DISCOVERY

How does an FDE turn symptoms into a solvable problem?

The following is an FDE exercise inspired by the case, not a claim about undocumented project events. Reported team actions appear in the context above.

Find where ownership stalls

Use a maintenance queue to trace reporting, assignment, acknowledgment, resource readiness and completion. Distinguish unavailable resources, stale information and missing ownership.

Inspect freshness, not just completeness

Complete fields can still be stale. Track observed and ingested times and identify delays that change scheduling decisions.

03 / DELIVERY ROUTE

How does the solution enter the workflow?

  1. 01

    Share state

Align tasks, resources, constraints and owners with freshness timestamps.

  2. 02

    Suggest

Filter ineligible resources before suggesting ranked candidates with reasons.

  3. 03

    Coordinate

Require acknowledgment by the on-shift team; record overrides.

  4. 04

    Recover

Stop automatic allocation on stale data or failed interfaces and use an owned manual queue.

04 / DECISIONS

Which decisions make the solution reliable?

Constraints before optimization

Eligibility, location and conflicts are hard constraints, not low-weight ranking factors.

Overrides are feedback

Classify overrides as bad data, missing rules or new conditions before changing models.

05 / WORKED EXAMPLE

One work order, conflicting availability

SYNTHETIC TEACHING EXAMPLE

Synthetic maintenance: J-6 needs electrical qualification. R-2 is qualified but availability is forty minutes old.

Eligibility
Qualification alone does not establish current availability.
Freshness
The exercise threshold is fifteen minutes: reconfirm or route manually.
Acknowledgment
Record owner, acknowledgment time and alternatives, not just a ranking.
06 / COURSEWORK

What should you do and deliver?

07 / ACCEPTANCE & REUSE

How do you prove completion and reuse the work?

Acceptance checks

Assess freshness, constraint violations, acknowledgment, waiting distributions and recovery using equipment tasks, not patient data.

Reusable assets

Transfer coordination patterns to warehouse waves, field service or staffing, with domain-specific eligibility and safety constraints.
